Solana Beach has named Alyssa M. Muto its new city manager, the coastal town's administration confirmed today. Muto, who will take office on May 6, steps in with a robust background in sustainability and mobility initiatives. She comes off a stretch as Director of the Sustainability & Mobility Department at the City of San Diego, where her oversight included a $32 million budget and a team of 60 full-timers, detailed the City of Solana Beach's announcement.

In her previous role, Muto also managed the Climate Action Plan Update and was instrumental in the launch of the Beach Bug circulator, a project aiming to enhance transport connectivity. Her appointment comes amid high expectations from both city officials and residents alike. "Alyssa Muto's proven track record of strategic leadership, and commitment to community engagement make her the ideal choice to lead Solana Beach into its next chapter," Mayor Lesa Heebner was quoted saying.

Boasting extensive experience in environmental consulting, planning, and project management before her array of leadership roles in San Diego, Muto is well-regarded for her regional collaboration and land use expertise. Muto expressed her enthusiasm for the new position, highlighting her intent to foster a sustainable community while addressing key local challenges. "I am honored to join the City of Solana Beach and work alongside its dedicated staff and community members. I look forward to building on Solana Beach's reputation as a vibrant, sustainable community and collaborating with stakeholders to address the city's most pressing challenges," Muto said, according to the city's statement.

A San Diego State University graduate, Muto holds both a Bachelor's and a Master’s in Public Administration and has a personal history with the city stretching back to her youth. Not only did she graduate from Torrey Pines High School in the area, but she also landed her first high school job at a local health club in Solana Beach. Muto now resides in a beach community with her family, where their activities include sand and water sports, running and biking.
