A South Yarmouth resident sustained serious burns following a domestic battery explosion that set fire to a home yesterday afternoon. Fire officials said the blaze, which occurred at 139 North Main Street, caused severe injury to the victim's face and hands.
The Yarmouth Fire Department reported that they received a distress call at 12:22 p.m. from the owner of the house, which quickly escalated into an active fire scene. "A battery had exploded and caused a fire," a Yarmouth Fire Department statement described. The injured man was swiftly flown to a Boston hospital for specialized treatment. All other occupants were said to have exited the building without injuries.
Emergency response teams from neighboring communities, including Dennis and Hyannis, were summoned to aid in taming the flames. "Crews from Yarmouth, Dennis, and Hyannis worked to extinguish the fire," according to a report from Boston 25 News. Despite the rapid response, the fire caused extensive damage localized to the area of origin.
