The streets of Northwest D.C. might just be a little safer today as the Metropolitan Police Department has cuffed William Armstead, a 24-year-old Southeast D.C. resident, in connection to a couple of brazen attempted robberies from late February, the department announced Wednesday.
Armstead is accused of stepping on pedestrians with a knife along the 1900 block of 14th Street on the night of February 27, and although he waved his blade and demanded their belongings, the would-be victims got lucky as the crook came up empty-handed and bolted from the scene. Within approximately an hour and a half, Armstead supposedly entered an establishment on the same block, where he got gutsy enough to pat down the pockets of another victim in search of valuables, however, when the mark made a run for it, the suspect had no choice but to flee once again.
The collar was made on March 13, and the charges slapped on Armstead include attempted armed robbery and assault with the intent to rob, as per the district's Third District detectives' reports.
Details surrounding the apprehension weren't immediately available. Officials at MPD haven't disclosed if they've hooked the additional suspect involved in the attempted armed robbery, one thing's for certain: Armstead's alleged reign of terror has been brought to a halt for now.
