Springfield Police have put three suspects behind bars following a traffic stop that turned up an AK-47 style rifle, a cocktail of drugs, and a wad of cash. The arrests were made last night in the city's Metro area by the Springfield Police Firearms Investigation Unit, led by Sgt. Christopher Hitas.

While investigating 24-year-old Dadin Davis, a vehicle carrying him and two others was pulled over at around 6:45 p.m. Uncovering a loaded AK-47 style rifle capable of housing 30 rounds, reported stolen from Detroit, and found on the passenger side floorboard, left little doubt about the gravity of the situation. Detectives also discovered MDMA, a stash of marijuana, and $2750 in cash during a search of the car, according to a statement obtained by the Springfield Police Department's website.

The operation resulted in the capture of Dadin Davis, alongside 23-year-old Tanight Benton and 25-year-old Raekwon Davis. They now face multiple charges that include carrying a firearm without a license, possession of a loaded large capacity firearm, and drug violations among others. Police have expressed that this bust represents the 12th illegal firearm seized by the unit in the month of March alone.

Taking the suspects into custody, the SPD FIU continues their aggressive crackdown against illegal firearms and drug trafficking in the community. Their latest success highlights an ongoing battle to curb violence and dismantle the networks that feed it, which were driving around with a stolen weapon and narcotics. All three suspects are currently held as they await their day in court, the Springfield officials have stated.
