This weekend, the Salt River Project (SRP) invites Phoenicians to dive into water conservation—without the deep-end prices. The free Water Conservation Expo offers classes, discounts on water-saving gadgets, and plenty of freebies for those ready to commit to a desert-friendly lifestyle, as reported by ABC15.
Up to 70 percent of a household's water use can go down the drain through outdoor waste. But the Expo’s treasure chest includes smart irrigation controllers that, for a fraction of the retail price, can slash water usage by 20 percent. And, with further rebates from local municipalities, residents’ piggy banks could be hearing sweeter, heavier jingles, according to SRP.
The Saturday, March 2, event at the PERA Training & Conference Center, from 8 a.m. to noon, is more than just a product push. SRP’s Water Conservation Expo is a hub for learning—from choosing the right desert plants to understanding the nuts and bolts of rainwater harvesting. Expo program manager Leeann Yacuel told ABC15, “It is also an opportunity for residents to hear from experts about water stewardship, conservation, and SRP’s role in managing the Valley’s water.”
The weekend affair is rounded off with a mini plant sale by Desert Botanical Garden and contact opportunities with community water partners, ensuring a 360-degree approach to conservation, as per SRP. Can't make it to the expo? Fear not, SRP's website is a reservoir of resources with classes offered throughout the Valley on composting, butterfly gardening, and more. For those who've yet to join the conservation conversation, now's the time to catch the current.
