San Antonio's Stable Hall at the Pearl is gearing up for a series of free Saturday events that promise a mix of cultural touchstones—ranging from live music to the traditional game of lotería. As reported by KSAT, this historic venue will open its doors on Saturdays from March 16 through May 4, but not on April 13, for a lively cultural experience dubbed Sabor Sessions. Attendees can look forward to a diverse performance schedule, with Sonora Hechicera kicking things off this weekend.
The venue, a storied space that has been transformed over three years, is offering these matinee performances and lotería games, a game similar to bingo, as a chance for the public to explore without the need for a paid concert ticket, according to a news release obtained by KSAT. Doors to Stable Hall swing open at 11 a.m., with lotería starting at noon and live music commencing at 2:30 p.m. In addition, guests will have the opportunity to purchase a selection of drinks and pre-packaged snacks, including crispy dogs from Lala's Gorditas.
In a twist for the digitally-savvy, those interested in joining the festivities will need to RSVP online due to the limited space. According to ExpressNews, stablehall.com/calendar is the go-to site for securing a slot. The series debut is expected to draw crowds, with influencer Gabby Gonzales at the helm for the kickoff. It's an eclectic assembly, featuring acts such as Luna Tropical, Jose Amador & Terra Nova, and Haile G & Tumbao Orquesta in the upcoming weeks.
The collaboration for the lotería games is between Stable Hall, the San Antonio UNESCO Creative City of Gastronomy Program, and food photographer Tracey Maurer, reflecting San Antonio’s rich culinary and cultural heritage. Local artist Gilbert Martinez, also known as "FOR REAL," will be on-site selling original poster art. As described by a news release cited by KSAT, the series has garnered partnership with ¡Qué Sabor! San Antonio, and the backing of organizations such as the World Heritage Office and Texas Public Radio, suggesting a communal effort to give back to the community through accessible cultural showcases.
