In a devastating incident shaking the community of Sterling Heights, a man has been charged with the stabbing death of his pregnant girlfriend. Damarion Winston Goler, 31, faced arraignment in 41-A District Court on charges of second-degree murder and assaulting a pregnant individual, among others.

During the early hours of Sunday morning, police were called to a bloody apartment scene on 18 Mile Road, but found no one inside. Later, a blood-soaked Goler was discovered with the victim in her vehicle in the parking lot of a Clinton Township building, as reported by hoodline. The woman, identified as Talic Mersina, 31, and her unborn child, were subsequently pronounced dead at a local hospital.

Prosecutor Peter Lucido cast the events in somber tones. "The defendant allegedly chose to take the life of his pregnant girlfriend, someone who trusted and loved him," Lucido said, according to the Detroit News. "These acts are not merely crimes against individuals but against the very fabric of humanity itself."

Details about the case are still emerging, with the Sterling Heights Police Department working to comprehend why the couple left their apartment and ended up at the Clinton Township location. According to the Macomb Daily, if convicted of the most serious charges, Goler could face up to life in prison. A probable cause hearing is set for April 3, with a preliminary examination on April 10.
