After a nearly two-year manhunt, the mother of a 5-year-old boy whose remains were discovered in a suitcase tucked away in the Southern Indiana woods has finally been apprehended. As reported by FOX 5 Atlanta, Dejaune Anderson was on the run since her son's body was found in April 2022, and she was captured in Arcadia, California as she tried to board a Los Angeles Metro Rail train, as part of an arrest that involved Indiana State Police and the U.S. Marshals.
Authorities charged Anderson with murder, neglect of a dependent resulting in death, and obstruction of justice for the death of her son Cairo Ammar Jordan, who was identified months after a man searching for wild mushrooms stumbled upon his remains, Anderson was fleeing from her accused reprehensible acts, which culminated in a disturbing case that captured national attention, with disturbing details emerging about alleged discussions of demonic possession and exorcism centered around the young boy.
The tip that led to Anderson's capture came from a concerned citizen who informed the police of her whereabouts, Indiana police then coordinated with federal and local authorities to secure her arrest, detectives have since flown out to California to question her and are petitioning for her extradition back to Indiana, according to information obtained by Atlanta News First.
In connection to the case, Dawn Coleman from Shreveport, Louisiana, who was arrested in San Francisco in October 2022, has pled guilty to aiding in the crime and has agreed to testify against Anderson as part of a plea that granted her a reduced sentence of 30 years with five years suspended; the symbiotic relationship between Anderson and Coleman unraveled as their dark saga came to light, with their digital footprints and a suitcase linking them directly to the crime.
The Indiana State Police's probable cause affidavit, detailed in the FOX 5 Atlanta report, provides a chilling glance into the case with discussions about supernatural beliefs that blurred the lines of reality for Anderson, who wrote on social media about her son being possessed by a demon and her apparent attempts at exorcism. The Southern Indiana community has since come together to provide the young victim, Cairo, with a proper burial.
