A tragic hit and run on Loop 410 has resulted in the arrest of a suspect connected to the fiery crash that took an elderly woman's life. KSAT reports that 30-year-old Dominic Rodriguez was charged with collision involving death after the deadly incident that occurred in the early hours of March 1.
In what appears to be a careless act of vehicular negligence, Rodriguez is alleged to have recklessly rear-ended 76-year-old Eden Nuval, sending her vehicle into a barrier and causing it to overturn and burst into flames. According to records, Rodriguez then chose to not stop and failed to provide aid, fleeing the scene as the FOX San Antonio details.
Utilizing the vehicle's registration and a 911 phone call automatically triggered during the collision, authorities linked the Ford Bronco Sport involved in the crash to Rodriguez. The arrest affidavit further reveals that a cell phone connected to the vehicle placed a call to 911 at the time of the crash, with an automated voice indicating that the Ford experienced a significant speed change.
Further investigation by San Antonio police led to a disturbing audio trail; Rodriguez is heard requesting help, stating he needed to quickly get out, and provided a location before abruptly ceasing communication with the operator. As KSAT reports, "At that time, the door is heard being closed and the Defendant stops talking to the call taker."
Confronted by law enforcement, Rodriguez "could not provide a reasonable explanation as to how and why his Ford had been crashed," points out the arrest affidavit. After the warrant was signed, law enforcement took Rodriguez into custody where he remains held in Bexar County Jail with a bond of $100,000, as confirmed by FOX San Antonio.
This case serves as a grim reminder of the responsibilities that come with being behind the wheel and the heavy consequence of flight over fight in moments where human life hangs in the balance. As the community mourns the loss of Eden Nuval, questions linger on the state of mind and subsequent actions of Dominic Rodriguez in the wake of the catastrophe that unfolded on that fateful morning.
