A three-month probe into a fatal shooting that resulted from a tussle over a liquor bottle culminated with an arrest, as confirmed by the SAPD. Sysco Barrientes, 27, is facing allegations tied to the killing that followed a late-night spat on December 30, 2023.
Answering a call of gunfire on the 714 block of Pennystone Avenue, law enforcement discovered a deceased male at a home’s entrance, having sustained a fatal gunshot wound to his torso. Witnesses at what appeared to be an "after party" told police, as reported by KENS5, that the victim and another man quarreled over a bottle of liquor, which escalated into a physical altercation.
It was after the fight, the victim tried to re-enter the home, to fetch personal belongings that were dropped while being escorted out, when the suspect met him at the door and, allegedly, fired the deadly shot. According to information sourced from the police affidavit, the critical piece of evidence, the liquor bottle in question, was recovered inside the property.
Forensics processed the crime scene and detected a fingerprint on the liquor bottle, directly linking Barrientes to the murder. The investigators then gathered a photo line-up based on this fingerprint, which two separate witnesses, upon viewing, identified Barrientes as the man they believe to be responsible for the death at the party. The suspect was apprehended subsequent to the issuance of an arrest warrant on Saturday.
