Sandy Springs has seen its share of petty crime but the recent arrest of a car burglar takes a familiar story to a new locale. According to Atlanta News First, police took a man into custody early March 7 after he allegedly broke into several cars parked at a local Comfort Inn hotel.
Responding to a predawn distress call, officers arrived at the scene around 1 a.m. to find that two vehicles had been broken into. The suspect, described as a white man with a distinct blue backpack, was later found and arrested by police. Greyson Smythers, the 25-year-old man accused in the vehicle thefts, was found in possession of items reported missing from the cars, the report stated.
Further compounding Smythers' legal woes, when police apprehended him in the Comfort Inn's parking lot, he was found just blocks away from Mutation Brewing Company, the original site of the theft. MDJ Online reported that Smythers allegedly made off with a variety of personal items from the cars parked at the brewing company, which included a laptop, wireless headphones and shoes.
Further investigation uncovered that Smythers was not only facing charges in Georgia, but he was also wanted on multiple arrest warrants from other states, one being South Carolina, police said. With two counts of entering auto behind him in Sandy Springs, his journey through the legal system appears to be far from over. Smythers was booked into Fulton County Jail on March 7 and faces a litany of charges that promises, a rocky road ahead.
