A mother and her 3-year-old son were tragically found dead in a Texas park in what law enforcement suspect was a murder-suicide, according to statements from Bexar County Sheriff Javier Salazar. Savannah Kriger, 32, and her son Kaiden were reported missing on Monday, with their bodies being located on Tuesday morning, their lives cut short amidst a custody battle over the young child.
After Savannah failed to respond to calls, sending family and friends into a wave of panic her cell phone voicemail on loop and her location services betraying no clue of her whereabouts, authorities were notified leading to a search that ended with the discovery of an abandoned white 2023 Lincoln Aviator in Tom Slick Park, The National Desk reported.
Salazar detailed during a news briefing the sequence of events that started with a scheduled welfare check, after which deputies, with the help of a family member's consent, entered Kriger's home where undisclosed concerns were raised about the safety and well-being of both her and her son, per a news conference captured by KSAT.
The alarm over their absence soared into an official Amber Alert Tuesday morning for Kaiden Kriger, amidst a backdrop of a custody dispute that was set for a court hearing on the same day of the grisly discovery, according to Salazar, Savannah left work early Monday to pick up Kaiden from daycare and was never seen again after driving off – an initial search on Monday night had to be halted due to darkness, only for a Park Police officer to find the bodies in a drainage ditch the following morning.
Salazar has stated that the evidence, including gunshot wounds on the victims and a weapon found nearby, points to a murder-suicide, though the investigation is ongoing to confirm these suspicions. The motive behind the shootings remains unknown, but the tragic event underscores the brutal nexus of domestic disputes and devastating outcomes.
