Teen nabbed by cops in foiled robbery, his accomplice still on the lam, the Metropolitan Police Department reported. A 17-year-old male was taken into custody yesterday, after a failed attempt to rob a Northwest business earlier this year, authorities said.
The incident, which took place on January 15 at around 8:20 p.m., involved two young men storming into a storefront on the 100 block of Rhode Island Avenue, Northwest. The duo's heist went south when one of them pulled a gun and unsuccessfully tried to quickly squeeze money out of the victim, who bravely refused to comply. The would-be robbers fled empty-handed, according to police statements.
Sequences of diligent detective work led the Third District officers to the 17-year-old suspect, hailing from Southwest D.C., who now faces charges for the botched armed robbery. Despite the catch, the search is still on for his partner in crime, as the MPD continues to appeal to the public for leads.
The authorities are not just asking for help; they're offering cold, hard cash to whoever can turn the tables on violent crime. MPD has advertised a bounty of up to $10,000 to be able to effectively encourage anyone who provides information leading to the arrest and conviction of the person or persons behind such felonious acts in the District of Columbia.
