A brazen teen's flight from justice met a swift end thanks to diligent work by the Atlanta Police Department. On March 12, officers spotted a stolen black Dodge Charger being driven by 17-year-old Jerious Simpson, after being notified of the auto theft.
Despite efforts to evade arrest, including a high-speed chase with speeds exceeding 100 mph and a subsequent on-foot escape, Simpson's freedom was cut short. According to FOX 5 Atlanta, the daring pursuit unfolded after the car's owner, who had left the vehicle running, was able to assist the police by tracking the stolen Charger's location, leading to a coordinated ground and air apprehension effort.
Footage from APD's Air Unit captured the suspect abandoning the Charger at an apartment complex and darting into an apartment building. A brief respite was had before Simpson, donning a burgundy jumpsuit, slipped into the back seat of a white car, mistakenly believing his pursuers were none the wiser. This attempt at a sly getaway was thwarted when police officers, guided by the eyes in the sky, stopped the vehicle and arrested the teen.
Simpson now faces multiple charges, including fleeing and eluding officers and theft by receiving. As reported by WSBTV, the suspect also had an existing warrant out for his arrest, complicating his legal woes further.
