
Gunfire erupted on the West Side of Chicago during an attempted robbery last night, leaving three people injured, including a teenager who has been taken into custody. According to the Chicago Tribune, the shooting occurred shortly after 10:00 p.m. in the Lawndale neighborhood on the 3800 block of West Roosevelt Road.
Police arrived at the scene to find two men, aged 34 and 50, and a 16-year-old boy with gunshot wounds. A preliminary investigation suggested the boy was attempting to rob the men when shots were fired. An unidentified gunman also opened fire during the incident before fleeing. Despite the chaos, all victims were listed in good condition - the 50-year-old was struck in the wrist, receiving care at St. Anthony Hospital; the 34-year-old suffered a neck wound and was taken to Mount Sinai Hospital; and the teenage assailant was hit in the leg and is being treated at Stroger Hospital, CBS News reports.
The 16-year-old has been taken into custody, with law enforcement recovering a weapon at the scene. The circumstances around the second gunman's involvement and subsequent escape are still under active investigation by the police.
