The quest for improving student outcomes leaped forward as the Tennessee Department of Education rolled out its latest 2022-23 State Report Card, offering parents, educators, and lawmakers an upgraded, user-friendly platform to gauge the performance of schools across the Volunteer State, showcasing new interactive tools for deeper analysis and better advocacy.

Revealed in a press release yesterday, the interactive report card is designed to spark targeted strategies and investments that will ultimately shore up schooling for Tennessee's youth; it features a suite of enhanced functionalities including an updated school grading system and a glimpse at the impact of the new Tennessee Investment in Student Achievement funding model. Although a truly informative step these newly added features have already stirred conversations among local communities around the state.

Commissioner Lizzette Reynolds underscored the value of the updated tool, stating, "The updated State Report Card shares powerful data about Tennessee’s public schools and districts, and importantly, empowers families and local communities with information to help them best advocate for students and their public schools", according to the Tennessee Department of Education.

The annual report, which delves into various facets of educational performance—from state assessment scores to graduation rates, provides parents an intensive look at their child's school, this is possible thanks to an improved letter grading page within school profiles and a TISA calculator that explains funding allocations based on specific student needs. Despite the good intentions and potential benefits of these new features, the success of their application in improving educational quality and equity remains a topic of continuous scrutiny and debate.
