A Texas man received his sentence on Wednesday for his role in the January 6 Capitol riots. Adam Lejay Jackson, originating from Katy, Texas, was handed 36 months of probation after pleading guilty to assaulting law enforcement officers during the chaos that day. The U.S. District Judge Rudolph Contreras also ordered Jackson to pay $2,000 in restitution and slapped him with a $4,392 fine.

According to the Department of Justice, Jackson and others travelled from Texas to Washington, attended the “Stop the Steal” rally, and subsequently marched to the Capitol. There, Jackson took a leading role amidst the mayhem, rallying rioters and using a pilfered police shield to ram police officers guarding a tunnel entrance into the Capitol.

Court filings detailed Jackson's involvement, including climbing a ladder to get a better view of the tunnel violence and then forcefully engaging with police. His actions resulted in two officers losing their balance and tumbling to the ground. After the confrontation, Jackson bragged on social media about his participation and even discussed returning to D.C. for the inauguration.

Jackson was arrested at his home in Katy by the FBI on June 7, 2022. Since the Capitol breach, over 1,358 individuals have been arrested in connection with the riot, with more than 486 facing charges for assaulting or impeding law enforcement. Jackson's case was prosecuted by the U.S. Attorney's Office for the District of Columbia with assistance from other departments, and an ongoing investigation continues to pursue others involved in the events of January 6.
