Tragedy struck a Vermont highway over the weekend as two women died in a grisly car wreck that left their vehicle overturned after smashing into a tree. The fatal accident, which occurred on the southbound side of Interstate 91 in Barnet, claimed the lives of 27-year-old Jessica Norrie and 28-year-old Bryana Gillis, both from St. Johnsbury, as reported by Boston 25 News.
Responding to the horrific scene Saturday, state troopers found four individuals inside the wrecked Nissan Versa, two whom were pronounced dead at the scene and as emergency services rushed to the area, two other passengers were found injured: Christian Montandon, 44, of Bradford, was severely injured and is currently receiving treatment at Dartmouth Hitchcock Medical Center, while Richard Kendall III, 29, also of St. Johnsbury, suffered minor injuries and was taken to Northeastern Vermont Regional Hospital, this according to a statement reported by MyChamplainValley.com.
Authorities are still piecing together the details of the crash, with preliminary investigations by the Vermont State Police suggesting the driver veered off the road for unknown reasons. The impact with the tree was severe enough to overturn the vehicle, and it was additionally noted by the police that all occupants in the car at the time of the crash were not wearing seatbelts.
