In the face of personal adversity, Susan Immer, a stalwart volunteer at the Humane Society for Southwest Washington (HSSW), has transformed her cancer battle into a mission to smash fundraising records for a cause close to her heart. Diagnosed with oral cancer last fall, Immer is rallying to assemble a 100-member squadron for the HSSW's upcoming Walk/Run for the Animals.
Immer's treatment journey has to forced sideline her from the physical act of participating in this year's event, but not from lending her spirit and drive to create the largest team the fundraiser has ever witnessed. Despite the hurdles, she's pushing to advocate and inspire others to join her team, Cats Rule, in support of the animal community she's dedicated years to serve. According to a report by KOIN, success will mean rewriting the record books for the HSSW event slated for May.
Support has been pouring in for the long-time volunteer whose commitment never wavered even as she faced her health crisis. The HSSW community has always known Immer as a relentless force, and her current campaign is proving to be no different. Ensuring that every paw counts, Immer's goal is much more than just a personal triumph – it's seen as a testament to the bridge between human resilience and animal welfare.
"Susan has been a tremendous part of our volunteer team and now we have the opportunity to show our support for her in a big way," said Sam Ellingson, HSSW’s Director of Communications, in a statement made to underscore the wholehearted drive behind Immer’s campaign. As the days inch closer to the Walk/Run event, all eyes are on Cats Rule to quickly become the team to usher in an unprecedented feat in fundraising efforts for the animals "This would be the largest Walk/Run team in the event’s history," Ellingson told KOIN.
