A routine day at a Davie food market was disrupted when an SUV barreled through the storefront of the Dixie Market, causing minor injuries to the store owner. Fort Lauderdale Police were on the scene at the business located at Davie Boulevard, near Southwest 39th Terrace, following the Tuesday crash. The incident shook up both the market and its patrons, as the storefront was left visibly damaged.
Store owner Hassan Raad was in the midst of restocking when the vehicle unexpectedly crashed into the building. WSVN reported Raad saying, "She was coming, I thought she was gonna park, the only thing is I feel somebody pushed her from the back." Raad was fortunate to escape with just a minor injury to his leg, expressing a profound relief, "I'm lucky I'm still alive, that's the only thing. 'Thank God I'm still alive.'" The condition of the driver has not been disclosed.
The accident drew the immediate response of the Fort Lauderdale Police Department who are currently investigating the cause of the crash. Further information is still forthcoming as authorities work to piece together the events that led to the SUV's unexpected detour into the Dixie Market.
According to Local10, the crash mainly affected a window and a door frame of the store with no structural damage being reported. The storefront, now bearing the scars of the collision—with a splintered window frame and a hood of a sports utility vehicle covered in broken glass—tells a tale of the startling incident that could have turned out far worse for those involved.
