The internet sensation, who's made headlines for breaking past fences like they were made of paper, was last seen around 5 p.m. on Wednesday before he became the center of a missing animal case that has left his owners and fans deeply concerned.
The owners of the 10-acre farm, Christian and Lisa Seger, quickly turned to social media, posting a flyer and messaging their community in hopes of locating their beloved shellback. Disturbingly, neighbors reported seeing people standing around a car, looking in the back at what appeared to be a turtle, around the time Jeremy went missing. Known for his escape artistry, Jeremy has bolted from Blue Heron Farm more than a dozen times since his adoption from the Central Texas Tortoise Rescue. Weighing just shy of 90 pounds, he has demonstrated that fences and gates present little more than a mild inconvenience to his determined escapades. As reported by Chron.com, Lisa Seger said, "Smarter than a human toddler," suggesting Jeremy's intelligence is a major factor in his repeated breakouts.
Jeremy's owners have been vigilant, even resorting to attaching an Apple AirTag to his shell, but this device was found beeping in the driveway after his latest Houdini act. "Unfortunately in the grand escape, he managed to scrape it off on the bottom of our gate before smashing it," Lisa lamented to Chron.com.
The Segers' bond with Jeremy is strong, despite the challenges he has brought them. "He is absolutely a character," Lisa told Chron.com, "and we love him."
