Drivers in the District of Columbia should prep for roadblocks and parking bans this weekend, as the 2024 Rock ‘n’ Roll Half Marathon and 5K ramps up to take over city streets. The warning comes with a heads-up that police will be on hand to assist with vehicle crossings when possible, though certainty in that service should not be expected.
Beginning 6:00 p.m. on Friday, March 15, till 6:00 p.m. Saturday, stretches of Pennsylvania Avenue, Constitution Avenue, and several intersecting roads will be barred for parking. Metropolitan Police urge motorists to consider alternative routes to avoid frustrations and delays, according to the Metropolitan Police Department.
Aside from the no-parking zones, significant street shutdowns are also slated throughout the race day. Emergency No Parking zones will be enforced on routes including Constitution Avenue from 7th to 23rd Street, NW, and from 10th to 14th Street, NW. Other affected areas encompass Virginia Avenue from 18th to 19th Street, NW, and parts of Calvert Street, Adams Mill Road, and Columbia Road to name a few.
Complete road closures will seal off parts of Constitution Avenue, from 9th to 23rd Street, NW, starting at 3:00 a.m. until about noon. Vehicle traffic will also be halted on several other roads during the event hours. Amid the interruptions, the Rock 'n' Roll event, known for pairing long-distance running with live music, aims to inject a dose of entertainment into the pulse of the city, regardless of the traffic detours.
Residents and visitors are encouraged to review the full list of traffic changes and plan ahead to ensure a smooth commute or to join the festivities. Full details about the race, parking restrictions, and road closures can be found in the Metropolitan Police Department's official announcement.
