Drivers planning to navigate areas of westbound Interstate 10 and US 60 this weekend might need to rethink their routes due to several closures for improvement projects. Westbound I-10 will be narrowed to two lanes between Broadway Road and 40th Street starting at 8 p.m. Friday and continuing until 4 a.m. Monday for work on the I-10 Broadway Curve Improvement Project. Similarly, a part of westbound US 60 will shut down from 9 p.m. Friday to 5 a.m. Monday, according to ABC15.

The Arizona Department of Transportation advises that the westbound I-10 ramp to eastbound US 60 will be closed, along with the westbound I-10 on-ramp at Baseline Road. As part of the detour strategy, those aiming to connect with eastbound US 60 from westbound I-10 are recommended to exit at Broadway Road and then turn to enter eastbound I-10. The eastbound I-10 off-ramp at Baseline Road will also experience temporary closure from 10 p.m. Friday to 10 a.m. Saturday to facilitate paving. Motorists should consider exiting at Elliot Road instead, as per ADOT.

For travelers on westbound US 60, also known as the Superstition Freeway, the closure spans from Crismon Road to Loop 202. In addition, on-ramps at Ironwood Drive, Signal Butte, and Meridian roads will be closed. To bypass the closure, alternate routes such as westbound Baseline Road or Southern Avenue are suggested for usage.

The I-10 interchange near Sky Harbor Airport is another area facing restrictions; all on- and off-ramps at 40th Street will close from 10 p.m. Friday to 4 a.m. Monday. The 40th Street itself will be closed over I-10 between Broadway Road and Raymond Street. Detours include the westbound I-10 off- and on-ramps at 32nd Street or the eastbound off-ramp at 48th Street, which motorists should plan to use, as reported by ADOT.

All construction schedules are subject to change due to factors like inclement weather, and drivers are encouraged to stay updated on real-time conditions by visiting ADOT’s Arizona Traveler Information site at az511.gov, using the az511 app, or by calling 511. These freeway improvements are part of the Regional Transportation Plan for the Maricopa County region, funded in part by Proposition 400, a dedicated sales tax approved by county voters in 2004.
