Commuters are back to cruising without a hitch at the intersection of Old Okeechobee Rd. and N. Florida Mango Rd. in West Palm Beach, as the Palm Beach County Water Utilities Department (PBCWUD) wrapped up repair work on a busted water main. The snag that started on Wednesday was cleared by Thursday evening, officials said.
The repair work, which launched into action at a questionable hour — 5 p.m. on March 6 — threw a wrench in the usual traffic flow by closing off east- and westbound lanes on Old Okeechobee Rd. This move forced drivers to seek alternative routes, potentially throwing off evening commutes and causing frustration amongst motorists.
By 5:30 p.m. the next day, according to a press release from the Palm Beach County, the work was completed with all lanes reopened, returning the flow of traffic back to its regular rhythm. The department extended its apologies in an announcement and expressed gratitude toward the community for their patience. "The department apologizes for any inconvenience this may have caused and thank the community for patience and understanding as PBCWUD completed the repairs as quickly and safely as possible," the Palm Beach County stated, ensuring that all efforts were made to minimalize the disruption.
While the repairs may have caused temporary headaches, the swift conclusion of work is a testament to PBCWUD’s commitment to maintaining essential infrastructure with as little disturbance as possible to the daily lives of Palm Beach residents.
