
A teenage scuffle turned violent at a West Side apartment complex when a 13-year-old boy allegedly opened fire on a 14-year-old, according to the Bexar County Sheriff's deputies. The shooting took place around 5 p.m. Tuesday at the Applewood Ranch Apartments, located just off Loop 1604 near U.S. Highway 90, FOX San Antonio reports.
The altercation escalated, lending to a pull of the trigger that decidedly was the difference between childhood roughhousing and juvenile delinquency, the bullet grazed the older teen's head resulting in injuries that were fortunately nonfatal. Law enforcement officers were able to track down the accused shooter to a nearby apartment, ultimately taking him into custody without further incident, officials say the boys had been involved in a fight precursor to the gunfire.
The injured teenager was lucky to walk away with a head wound that was not life-threatening as he is expected to recover fully. Authorities charged the 13-year-old assailant with aggravated assault with a deadly weapon, as stated by FOX San Antonio. The incident has created a grave dialogue around teen violence and access to firearms in the community.
