UPDATE: Suspect Jesus Ivan Dorantes Arrested After 9-Year-Old Girl Killed and Four Injured in I-680 Concord CrashSource: CHP - Contra Costa

In a turn of tragic events on I-680 near Concord, a young life came to a premature end when a 9-year-old girl was killed in a vehicular accident earlier this week. The California Highway Patrol of Contra Costa reported that four women were also injured as the gray Mazda CX-9 they were traveling in crashed and overturned close to the SR-242 split on early Sunday morning. Per earlier reporting from Hoodline, emergency responders reached the scene to find the vehicle on its roof, and several passengers ejected from the car amidst the wreckage.

The CHP informed that the preliminary investigation suggests that a lapse in seatbelt use by several passengers could have been a factor in the severity of the outcome. In the immediate aftermath of the crash, the driver, described by authorities as a Hispanic male around 30 years of age, abandoned the crash site, leaving behind his passengers and evading the consequences of his actions. Efforts to locate him led to an arrest. 22-year-old Jesus Ivan Dorantes has been detained in connection with the fatal incident, as reported by the CHP Contra Costa's Facebook Page, with charges including manslaughter, felony hit and run, and child abuse.

The arrested suspect, Mr. Dorantes, is now being held at Martinez Detention Facility on a bail set at $200,000.  The authorities urge anyone with information regarding the crash to contact the CHP Contra Costa. Witnesses can reach the office at (925) 646-4980 or through email at [email protected], per the CHP's request for public assistance.
