Norma Zuniga, the Arlington Public Libraries Director, has clinched the prestigious 2024 Woman of the Year Award from the Arlington branch of the American Association of University Women (AAUW). This accolade is reserved annually for a woman who has shown an unwavering commitment to AAUW's mission of promoting equality and advancement for women and girls in areas of advocacy, education, and research.

Zuniga's leadership has repeatedly caught the eye of the AAUW over the past five years, particularly with the planning and construction of a new Downtown Library, upgrades across the Arlington Public Library system, and the enhancement of the City’s literacy programs. Her tenure in Arlington began 22 years ago as a children’s librarian, vaulting through the ranks to become the head of the library system in 2020.

As noted by the City of Arlington, Texas, AAUW has recognized Zuniga for her significant contributions to the community. Under her direction, Arlington Public Library has embraced technological changes and has expanded its resources and services to better serve the educational, cultural, and arts needs of the locality.

Zuniga, a proud alum of Saint Joseph College and Texas Woman’s University, has not only furthered her knowledge but has consistently leveraged her experience to the benefit of the Arlington community.
