On a quiet evening in Atlanta that spiraled into a near-tragedy, a 9-year-old boy now finds himself in a hospital bed with a gunshot wound to the hand. The child was at home on Hutchens Road SE when he discovered an unsecured gun in a drawer and shot himself, as reported by FOX 5 Atlanta. The incident occurred around 7:10 p.m. on Saturday, jarring the sense of domestic security to its core.
Miuana Fair, the boy's grandmother, was home making food when the accidental shooting happened. According to police, she owned the gun that tore through the flesh of her grandchild's hand. Preparing food at the time of the incident, she was arrested for reckless conduct and subsequently taken into custody at the Fulton County Jail. "After interviewing her, though," officers said, as 11Alive reports, "they found a second gun in the home that also was not secured and locked away."
The Atlanta Police are now piecing together the events. Charged with reckless conduct, Fair remains behind bars.
