Hartsfield-Jackson Atlanta International Airport has secured its spot as the world's busiest airport, a title it has proudly held for more than two decades except for 2020. According to Airport Council International, via WSBTV, the airport saw an 11.7% increase in passengers from 2022, welcoming 104.7 million passengers last year.

In 2023, traffic at ATL was still 5% shy of its pre-pandemic totals but the trend is upward, as highlighted by statistics from OAG.com which revealed a 3% daily increase in passengers this April compared to last month. "Securing the title of the world's busiest airport once again is credited to the dedication and passion of the entire ATL team," Balram "B" Bheodari, the Airport General Manager, told WSBTV in a recent coverage.

ATL's crucial role in boosting Atlanta's economy and connectivity can not be overstated. Atlanta Mayor Andre Dickens, as quoted by Fox5Atlanta, emphasized the airport's significance, stating, "ATL’s success is Atlanta’s success, and being home to the world’s busiest airport underscores our city’s economic vitality. It is a testament to our global connectivity and an affirmation of our city’s place on the world stage. This accolade celebrates not just the Airport’s success but the collective spirit and hard work of every individual who contributes to our city’s lifeblood, and my vision of Moving Atlanta Forward," The airport has a substantial economic influence, boasting a $66 billion impact on the state.

Progress and innovation at the airport continue rapidly as last year saw the commencement of enhancements to the Domestic Terminal and the start of construction on a new South Parking Deck. The ATL team is also looking to extend the Plane Train Tunnel and widen the width of Concourse D. Other top contenders for passenger traffic were Dubai International, which was ranked second, followed by Tokyo International, London Heathrow, and Dallas/Fort Worth International Airport, according to Fox5Atlanta.
