The City of Avondale is gearing up to celebrate the youngins' in a big way with its annual KidFest event, part of the national Week of the Young Child. Set to turn Friendship Park into a wonderland for wee ones, the festival on April 13 welcomes families for a day of fun and learning, starting from 9 a.m. all the way through to 1 p.m.
Located at 12325 W. McDowell Road, Friendship Park will be brimming with activities tailored for kids, ranging from interactive physical games to the fascination of meeting emergency service vehicles up close. Food trucks will be on hand to fuel the fest, offering a variety of eats and sips for purchase, according to a statement on the city's website. Parents and their offspring can gorge on delights without breaking the bank, as the event is completely free, thanks to the sponsorship by APS.
Avondale Mayor Kenn Weise has thrown his support behind the festivities, having issued a proclamation marking April 8 – 13, 2024 as Week of the Young Child in the City of Avondale. This event is more than just fun and games; it's recognized by the National Association for the Education of Young Children (NAEYC) and the Arizona chapter AzAEYC, highlighting the significance of early education and support for families and their educators. With action-packed fishing to vehicle displays, the event aims to cater to the city's little ones and their care circles, as mentioned in the official proclamation.
Detailed arrangements are in place to ensure families arrive at the fun seamlessly. Parking is ready throughout Friendship Park. And for those who find spots elusive, Canyon Breeze Elementary School offers overflow parking, with WeRIDE vans shuttling attendees back and forth at zero cost, waiting at designated stops like steadfast chariots ensuring easy access to the festival's doorstep. For further details, festival-goers can hit up the event website or ring up the hotline at 623-333-2400.
KidFest boasts an impressive lineup of sponsors, including heavy-hitters like APS, Avondale Toyota, and the Salt River Project (SRP). Together with community-focused entities like First Things First and Valley of the Sun United Way, to eateries such as Raising Cane’s Chicken Fingers and Red Robin, the event is a celebration of the communal spirit invested in the growth and joy of its youngest residents.
