"Beyond Realism": Joel Sturdivant’s Nature-Inspired Art Graces Snellville City HallSource: City of Snellville, GA

City Hall's walls just got a dose of "Beyond Realism," thanks to local artist Joel Sturdivant, whose new exhibit opened to the public eye. According to Snellville.org, “A Calendar of Drawings and Other Works” showcases Sturdivant's fine art prowess through 25 distinctive pieces, each breathing life into various nature scenes.

Sturdivant, a Vietnam veteran, brings more than just brushstrokes to the canvas; he taps into nature’s enigmatic essence for inspiration. “Nature and all her mysteries are my inspiration,” he told Snellville.org. His pieces feature a dynamic range of mediums, employing ink, color, and graphite pencil for drawings, and a blend of acrylics and oils for paintings that elevate the richness of color.

The exhibition, free and open for every art enthusiast, is parked at the City Hall Community Room from 8 a.m. to 5 p.m. on weekdays. The portfolio of works will be highlighted further at a reception from 2 to 5 p.m. on April 13 in the same location, at 2342 Oak Road. Attendees can expect to navigate through Sturdivant's art until the season changes, as the show will adorn City Hall through the spring.

Sturdivant's credentials are as colorful as his paintings; he's an Atlanta College of Art alumnus with a Bachelor’s Degree in Fine Art under his belt. His artistic journey weaved its way through various exhibitions, including the Hudgens Center for the Arts, Johns Creek Members Exhibition, and the Annual Festival of the Arts at Cumming First United Methodist Church, as detailed by Snellville.org
