Gunplay in Roxbury put two behind bars after Boston's Youth Violence Strike Force intercepted a teenage boy and an 18-year-old man during an investigative sweep. The arrests came last night, at around 5:36 PM, in the vicinity of 35 Mount Pleasant Ave., according to official reports by the Boston Police Department.
Members of the Strike Force were patrolling the area when they stumbled upon a group that appeared visibly shaken by the police presence, leading to a foot pursuit with a young suspect. Shocked by the officer's appearance, a 16-year-old male, who was not named due to his juvenile status, was observed clutching his waistband as he fled from the officers. Law enforcement officials claim to have seen the juvenile extract a firearm and discard it in a building's hallway.
Police recovered a loaded Taurus 9MM handgun with its serial numbers defaced. The juvenile offender, along with Matos Edgard of Hyde Park, were promptly taken into custody following the discovery. Edgard, being of legal age, faces charges for illegal firearm possession, possession of a defaced firearm, and possession of a high-capacity magazine. "He will be arraigned in Roxbury District Court," the Boston Police statement detailed.
A similar fate awaits the juvenile in a different court, facing charges adjusted for youths for firearm offenses. The boy, charged with grabbing his waistband, will appear before the Boston Juvenile Court. This incident highlights tension in Roxbury's streets but also showcases Boston police readiness to address such disturbances.
