The American Red Cross has awarded Sergeant Detective John Burrows and Police Officer Awan Freeman of the Boston Police Department with the Red Cross Heroes Award for their lifesaving skills and educational outreach via the 'Stop the Bleed Program', the department's official website announced.
Thanks to the program, both officers have been hitting the streets teaching everyday citizens how to keep a bleed from turning deadly. "Stop the Bleed" isn't just a fancy phrase, it's a critical skill set being taught by these officers, providing community members with three simple, yet effective techniques to save lives in emergencies. In their own words, added the department, "Time is paramount in emergency situations, learning such things can – and has – helped save lives."
