Authorities made a significant break in a recent armed carjacking case with a suspect behind bars after a coordinated police operation in Brighton. According to the Boston Police Department's official release, 18-year-old Boston native Romello McCain was apprehended last night, by members of the Youth Violence Strike Force along with detectives from the District D-14 (Allston/Brighton).

This arrest unraveled at approximately 3:51 PM at 2 East Brookline Street, where the suspect was wanted on a straight warrant out of Brighton District Court. McCain now faces charges for armed carjacking with a firearm, armed and masked robbery with a firearm, assault and battery with a dangerous weapon, assault with a dangerous weapon, and larceny over $1,200. The same source states that he is expected to be arraigned in Brighton District Court.

The police's search didn't end with McCain's capture, as a search warrant executed at the arrest locale led to the recovery of a considerable amount of weaponry and cash. Seized items included a Glock 9mm ten round magazine, a box of fifty 9mm rounds of ammunition, fifteen rounds of .45 caliber ammunition, and approximately $367 in US currency.

These events follow a tense encounter that occurred on the night of April 2, 2024. Around 11:39 PM, officers from District D-14 were summoned to Goodenough Street, where an armed carjacking had been reported. According to the police report, two suspects brandished firearms and compelled a victim to surrender their vehicle along with approximately $1,300 worth of personal possessions. Later, detectives located the stolen vehicle unoccupied in the area of 14 Greenwich Park.
