Celebrate Earth in Chandler this week. The City of Chandler is set to mark Earth Day with a family-friendly bash at the Chandler Nature Center (CNC), where green thumbs and nature novices alike can converge for a morning of eco-conscious fun. According to city officials, the event, completely free of charge, will take place on April 20th from 9 a.m. to noon.
Attendees will be treated to an assortment of activities tailored for every age group, all while absorbing the beauty of the Veterans Oasis Park surroundings. "We are honored to live in such an amazing desert landscape. There is so much to learn, and explore!” Cadia Hernandez, Recreation Coordinator at the CNC, gushed in a statement obtained by Chandleraz.gov. She added, “This year, our Earth Day Celebration emphasizes the impact we can all make on our environment. Even small steps can make a large difference in conservation and sustainability.”
Participants can expect to exercise their creative muscles by decorating nature journals or getting scientific with sun-printing crafts. A critical conversation around the state of Arizona's saguaros and their combat with urban environmental threats will be spearheaded by Dr. Tania Hernandez of the Desert Botanical Garden at 10 a.m. in the CNC.
From the halls of the Phoenix Zoo to the grounds of the Phoenix Herpetological Sanctuary, numerous organizations across Arizona will lay out informational tables. Dr. Hernandez, a Research Scientist at the Desert Botanical Garden will be a guest speaker, said, “exploring the state of saguaros in Arizona and discussing conservation and environmental changes that are threatening saguaros in our urban desert environment.” Those attending can indulge in interactive games, a shot at winning prizes, and walk away with newfound knowledge. Adding to the day's agenda, the Arizona Humane Society will also bring along some furry friends in need of homes.
