A Chicago man has been slapped with a felony vehicular hijacking charge after authorities say he forcefully took a car from another individual last month. Enrique Enriquez, 39, of the 2300 block of S. Trumbull, was nabbed by cops on Monday and is now facing a serious legal battle, according to the Chicago Police Department.

Enriquez was apprehended in the 2200 block of S. Trumbull after being pegged as one of the attackers in the March 5th incident, police allege. Reportedly, he and possibly other accomplices are accused of violently commandeering a vehicle from a 39-year-old man in the 1800 block of N. Austin. Authorities were able to eventually track Enriquez down and promptly place him under arrest.

The Chicago Police Department statement shed little light on the specifics of the incident; detailing no more than the charges and the basic outline of the alleged crime. It remains unclear if other suspects are yet at large, or if the victim sustained any injuries during the vehicular hijacking.

Following his arrest, Enriquez was charged with one felony count of vehicular hijacking. He is scheduled for a detention hearing at the Criminal Courthouse at 2600 S. California today. No further information regarding the case has been released at this point. Questions regarding the case should be directed to the Chicago Police Department at 312-745-6110.
