Ride-share and delivery drivers in Chicago's 15th District are on high alert after the Chicago Police issued a business alert for a series of armed robberies targeting these workers when they are most vulnerable — delivering food or dropping off passengers. According to the Chicago Police Department, the crimes have followed a chilling pattern, with the robbers striking quickly upon the victim's arrival, brandishing handguns and demanding property.

The first of the incidents, which was running out of a nearby gangway by a group of male assailants wearing masks and all black, took place on the 5100 block of West Washington Blvd back on February 7. Subsequent robberies occurred at the same location on February 20, March 18, and March 30, and the most recent on March 31. These attacks all happen late at night or in the early morning hours.

The suspects have been described as male African-Americans, between 19 and 29 years old, and of various heights and builds. Sporting black ski masks and all-black attire, these individuals wield black handguns to intimidate their victims before fleeing the scene on foot.

With the safety of the community in mind, the police have advised anyone confronted by the assailant never to resist a robbery and to value life over possessions. If a witness is approached by the incident, people should request contact information and dial 9-1-1 immediately. In preserving the integrity of the crime scene, they should not touch anything until the authorities arrive.

As the investigation continues, authorities are asking for the public's help in identifying the robbers. They urge anyone with information, especially if they've noticed unique physical characteristics such as scars, limps, or distinctive marks, to come forward. The Chicago Police Department's cautioning of the community reflects a broader concern for the safety and well-being of those who service the city at all hours.
