According to an official police alert, groups of three to four assailants have been terrorizing pedestrians in Wentworth, demanding not just cell phones but the passcodes that unlock the digital lives within.
The incidents are reported to have taken place in the late hours, with the robbers arriving and escaping in a vehicle that quickly fades into the night. The most recent occasions detailed by the police occurred on the 5500 block of South Blackstone Ave. and twice on Kimbark Ave., within the shadows of the University of Chicago. The offenders have been described as African-American males, between 5'05" and 5'08" in height, lightly built, and wearing the anonymity of black clothing and ski masks. In an unsettling twist, in one incident, a female with distinctive red or auburn hair has been said to serve as the getaway driver.
