Englewood residents are on high alert following a string of armed robberies that has law enforcement urging the community to be vigilant. According to an official community alert issued by the Chicago Police Department, there have been recent robbery incidents in the 007th District, specifically on the 6900 Block of South Ashland Avenue. These incidents were reported as occurring in the early hours of April 8, 2024, with one taking place at 1:40 AM followed by another at 4:00 AM.
The Chicago Police Department's alert described the suspect vehicle as a Grey Kia Sedan from which the armed offender, described as an African American male dressed in black, would exit to confront his targets. Englewood residents were informed that the suspect brandished a black handgun to demand money and other valuables before making his escape in the same vehicle.
In response to this concerning trend, Chicago Police have offered several recommendations for community self-protection and safety. Citizens are advised to always be alert to their surroundings and to consider safe locations for exchanges related to online marketplaces, such as local police stations. Suspicious activities should be reported to authorities immediately. In the unfortunate event that one is confronted by an assailant, maintaining calm and trying to note any distinctive features for the police is encouraged.
