A Chicago veterinarian, known for his work both in the clinic and at prestigious dog shows, has pleaded not guilty to gruesome child pornography charges. Adam Stafford King, a 39-year-old ophthalmologist for animals and a regular on the dog show circuit, was arraigned in court following a deeply disturbing investigation that led to his arrest last month.
The accusations are severe: King has been charged with knowingly distributing child pornography and the FBI's inquiry unearthed a trove of ghastly messages detailing alleged sexual abuse plans for his own, expected newborn son. According to court documents obtained by CBS News, the veterinarian allegedly revealed a preference for children under age 10 and claimed to have drugged and abused his own family members. In one shocking message, King purportedly wrote, "0-9 [years old] my fav…B[oy] and g[irl], though prefer b[oy]."
As reported by FOX 32 Chicago, an orange jumpsuit-clad King waved to his parents in court but remained silent through the proceedings. Despite the charges, his defense team has firmly rejected the accusations. "The press nor the public should jump to any conclusions," his attorney Jonathan S. Bedi reaffirmed, "Mr. King pled Not Guilty because he is in fact, Not Guilty," he further stated, eyes fixed on a quick trial that they believe will inevitably prove his innocence.
King's professional life has already seen a downturn as the Chicago Tribune has noted that the American Kennel Club suspended his judging rights immediately upon the charges. This would have included King's role at the 2024 Westminster Kennel Club Dog Show, a notable absence for the Havanese dog breeder, and judge. The same Tribune report described how King had been expecting a son through a surrogacy arrangement, sharing ultrasound images and photos of baby outfits with the person in New York before their arrest and then with an FBI agent posing as the contact.
King is now scheduled for a May court date where proceedings will continue, the decision hanging in the balance amidst the web of allegations and pleas for due process. According to statements made by King's legal team, they are gearing up for a battle to clear his name from these sordid accusations.
