San Marcos residents in need of a little relief from the Texas heat can expect some support thanks to the City's initiative in partnership with the Salvation Army San Marcos, which kicked off their 6th Annual Summer Fan Drive this April.
Donations commenced on April 9 and will run until May 10, with the City calling for contributions of new, 12-inch or larger pedestal fans, and 20-inch box fans these will be distributed to those lacking air conditioning, which, given the sweltering Texas summers, can make a significant difference.
Utility services head Tyler Hjorth expressed enthusiasm for the program's return, stating, "It’s always an exciting time of year when we begin accepting fans for our community members in need", as the City of San Marcos website reports. The previous drive garnered 118 fans, and there's an expressed hope for an even greater number this time around.
The public can make their donations physical or financial by visiting the SMTX Utilities Amazon wish list or using Stripe for monetary contributions, all feeding into the purchase of new fans to help residents beat the heat a communal push that underscores the spirit of giving inherent to San Marcos's character.
For those interested in pitching in or for more information, it's suggested to direct inquiries to [email protected] or visit the City of San Marcos alert page.
