In a packed courtroom filled with judges, officials, and loved ones, Cobb County celebrated a victory for justice reform with six individuals graduating from the local Drug Treatment Court. The program, which offers an alternative to incarceration, marks another success in treating substance use disorder within the community. According to the official Cobb County announcement, the ceremony was a mix of tears, laughter, and shared stories of transformation and newfound hope.

The Drug Treatment Court program spans 18 to 24 months and is a blend of close supervision, evidence-based treatment, and recovery support designed to rehabilitate offenders back into society.  “Drug court has changed my life because before the program I did not think very much of the future. My only goals were to stay out of jail. Now I feel like the sky is the limit. I have accomplished things that I have only dreamed of.” one graduate recounted during the event, in a statement obtained by Cobb County.

Presiding Superior Court Judge Kimberly A. Childs, alongside a dedicated multi-disciplinary team, heads the program which has consistently steered participants towards a sober, productive life. Reflecting on the program's successes, Judge Childs told Cobb County, “these graduates exemplify the need for and importance of an evidence-based recovery and treatment program in our criminal justice system.  Our community should be proud of the commitment Cobb County has to helping those with substance use disorder transform their lives. Through the efforts of our dedicated team and with the continued support of our stakeholders, these 6 graduates are now sober, independent and productive members of our society.”

Backing the program's effectiveness and community focus, Childs lauds the graduates as sober, independent, and productive society members.
