COMUNIDAD Beckons: Dallas Unveils New Public Art Piece at Crawford Memorial Park with a Burst of FestivitiesSource: Dallas Park & Recreation

Dallas is rolling out the red carpet for its latest public art piece, a grand homage to community spirit dubbed COMUNIDAD. Nestled within Crawford Memorial Park, the dedication ceremony is slated for today, April 13, at 2 p.m., inviting one and all to partake in the revelry, the City of Dallas stated.

Dallas natives, you're in for a treat, with festivities including speechifying by the artist, Brad J. Goldberg, and city hotshots. There's a chance to rub shoulders with the creative mind behind the work, and, ensnare some free grub. Also on hand, performances by crooner Reuben Lael Griffin and the Alegre Ballet Folklorico to jazz up the joint. It's more than eye candy, folks – this art demands a crowd to fulfill its destiny, revealed by City Pip.

Goldberg wasn't content with churning out any run-of-the-mill sculpture. He dreamt up these chiseled gathering spots so locals could break bread, throw fiestas, or simply soak up the serene park vibes. An insightful combo of aesthetics and utility, COMUNIDAD is anchored by gilded granite, stretching out in the form of a multi-purpose stage, a sprawl of seats, and two inviting oval community tables, one of a whopping 80 feet and another, a cozier 30-footer.

The Dallas Public Art Program, the brainchild behind the city's visual feast, oversees the nuts and bolts of public art – from birthing new wonders to sprucing up the old guard – with creations by home-grown talent sprinkled across town. COMUNIDAD is just the newest kid on the block in a spread of artistic endeavors spicing up everything from firehouses to rec centers, and it's all courtesy of Dallas' creative cogs, they say.
