Country music's Colt Ford took a devastating turn Thursday night when he was suddenly rushed to the hospital after a heart attack in Gilbert, Ariz. Ford was performing at the Dierks Bently's Whiskey Row before the medical emergency struck, landing him in the intensive care at Banner Desert Medical Center. A representative for the singer confirmed to 12News that Ford is in a "stable but critical condition" as of Friday morning.
Scheduled to perform in New Mexico on Friday, the show's plans derailed after the Grammy-nominated star suffered the attack. With headline-making hits and noted for penning Jason Aldean's "Dirt Road Anthem," Ford's health woes are not new to his longtime fans. Colt Ford has been facing a tumultuous journey through eye cancer and grappling with Myasthenia Gravis, an autoimmune disease affecting muscles, as per reports from various music outlets, detailed AZ Family.
Delving deep into his health challenges, Ford had opened up about his struggles with Myasthenia Gravis in an honest recount to the AZ Family. Ford told Taste of Country that it "affects the muscles in your face, your eyes, and your throat. It hadn’t really affected my throat, but it really affected my eye. I had no control over my right eye. It really messes with your vision. I could see perfectly out of either eye, but then I would look together and I’d see three of you and you would be melting together like a lava lamp.”
The Athens, Georgia native has celebrated a successful career, marked by his distinctive fusion of country and rap, a style that has resonated widely with audiences. With a career spanning years and several chart-toppers to his name, Ford's recent hospitalization casts a shadow of concern over the country music community. Fans and colleagues are watching, waiting for updates, and hoping for a quick recovery of the artist who brought a new flavor to the genre with each of his songs. Meanwhile, representatives and medical staff have yet to release further details on his condition as the situation unfolds.
