In his message to the dedicated crew of Dallas Animal Services (DAS), Interim Director Paul Ramon praised the volunteers for their relentless help and the 'wagging tails' of the animals they assist, expressing his gratitude for their efforts and emphasizing their crucial role in the organization's life-saving work according to a recent DAS Volunteer Newsletter, per the City of Dallas.
Ramon, who took charge at the DAS department in 2022, counts over two decades of service with the City of Dallas, his experience fostering an environment where volunteers are seen not just as supporters but integral components of the team — they are now being invited to attend a Canine Adoption Assistant Training on April 13th, an event aimed to guide those interested in bettering the adoption process for dogs, offering advice and facilitating introductions using the technology provided; for those with a penchant for pint-sized paws, the kitten nursery is now open 24/7 for volunteers who can partake after completing a comprehensive online training on handling the adorable neonates.
In addition to the cat-and-dog-focused roles, DAS is also searching for a spirited individual to don the mascot outfit and cheer at the "Strut Your Mutt Event" on April 13th, ensuring jubilation among attendees, while on April 21st, a bed assembling party marks the start of Volunteer Appreciation Week—a period when relationships are fostered not just amongst the four-legged beneficiaries but also between human peers.
Furthering the community engagement, DAS has introduced a novel outreach program for volunteers to pair up with Animal Service Officers in educating Dallas residents about pet care regulations, handing out flyers, and supporting those recently cited while they learn kindness is not just a virtue but a jurisdictional mandate; in the same spirit, DAS extends their thanks to benevolent individuals whose contributions of dog treats and blankets have helped replenish their stock, ensuring comfort for each shelter resident.
The social aspects of volunteerism aren't overlooked either, with a "Yappy Hour" at Mutts Cantina slated for April 14th where animal lovers can unwind and bond over food and drinks, possibly with their own canine companions in tow; lastly, the forthcoming Volunteer Town Hall meeting on May 8th promises to delve into new volunteer positions and upcoming events, encouraging proactive participation through a pre-meeting invitation for question submissions, ensuring structured dialogue and the continued smooth operation of Dallas Animal Services.
