
A DeKalb teenager is facing serious charges after a violent carjacking attempt that left a woman fighting for her life. Eighteen-year-old Renard McGee, from the 2300 block of Eve's Circle West in DeKalb, Illinois, has been charged with one felony count of attempted first-degree murder, according to a statement released by the Chicago Police Department.
McGee was apprehended on April 9 and is accused of being involved in a shooting on March 16 that critically injured a 39-year-old female during an attempt to brutally take her vehicle at gunpoint. The incident occurred in the 2900 block of N. Ridgeway. The suspect’s charges also include one felony count each of attempt - vehicular hijacking with a firearm and aggravated vehicular hijacking with a weapon, along with one misdemeanor count of aggravated assault with a deadly weapon. The Chicago Police Department’s report firmly placed McGee at the scene of the crime.
The unfortunate string of events linked to McGee also encompasses another aggravated vehicular hijacking. This earlier crime, taking place on the same day as the shooting, involved a 20-year-old male victim in the 3700 block of W. George. McGee has been connected to this case and faces additional charges for it as well. After being identified as one of the offenders, he was charged following an investigation by authorities.
The circumstances surrounding the events have led to a detention hearing scheduled for April 10. No further details regarding the circumstances of the arrest or details of the event have been released by authorities pending trial.
