The New York Post has learned that the City of Denton has called off a public hearing scheduled for April 16. The hearing was meant to address proposed changes to the city's Mobility Plan, specifically regarding the Windsor Drive Extension. The City of Denton's Development Services Department confirmed the cancellation, according to the City of Denton, Texas.
The hearing was part of a Comprehensive Plan Amendment designated MPA24-0001. It aimed to modify the existing Thoroughfare Plan and Thoroughfare Map, a component of the Mobility Plan. The city though, has decided to drop the item from the upcoming City Council meeting's docket. Area residents who had been preparing to voice their concerns or support for the project will have to wait, as the item will not be presented or considered at the April 16 meeting.
Interested residents seeking more information or updates on the status of MPA24-0001 can contact the City of Denton, Development Services Department. The department is available by phone at (940) 349-8585.
No explanation for the cancellation was provided in the notice. It did state, however, that any future consideration of the amendment will not take place without public notification. This implies that citizens will have another chance to engage with the proposal, in a forum where local governance meets the voices of its constituency head-on, when or if the city chooses to revisit the amendment. The City of Denton maintains that transparency remains a priority, evident in its method of communicating cancellations and schedule changes to those affected.
