The Desoto Police Department is seeking community members willing to guide and support local youths as part of a new mentorship initiative. In collaboration with Desoto ISD, the police department is extending an invitation to individuals interested in mentoring 9th-grade students at Desoto High School.
Volunteers who have a passion for making a difference in young people's lives are encouraged to step forward. They'll need to commit to meeting with students on school grounds at least twice a week. Anyone looking to take part in molding the minds of tomorrow must undergo a basic background check before interacting with the students. "We are calling all volunteers!" announced the Desoto Police Department in a recent call to action.
Potential mentors wanting more information can reach out to Taylor Combs, the Desoto Police Department Youth Advocate. For questions or concerns about the mentorship program, Combs can be contacted at her office number, 469-658-3076, or via email at [email protected].
The initiative represents a significant step towards community engagement, emphasizing education and positive role modeling within the high school environment. "Mentors should be available during the school day to meet with students at least twice a week and have a passion for helping youth," the Desoto Police Department outlined, signaling the department's commitment to fostering strong, supportive relationships between adults and students.
