Detroit residents better keep their umbrellas on hand as a wet week is on the horizon according to the latest weather forecasts. The city is set to experience a mix of sunny spells and substantial showers in the days ahead. Today, Detroiters can expect a slight chance of rain after 2pm with temperatures reaching a pleasant high near 73 degrees and south winds gusting as high as 24 mph.
Tonight should bring partly cloudy skies with the mercury dipping around 46, as the west southwest breezes calm down. The relative tranquility is, however, merely a prelude to the downpours destined to define the remainder of the week. Come Wednesday, the sun will be mostly front and center until evening when showers are slated to begin, bringing up to half an inch of rain and a low of about 50 degrees.
According to the National Weather Service, Thursday will be a decidedly wet day. Detroit will be stuck in showers with potential thunderstorms cropping up after 5pm. Add to this the strong south southeast wind gusting as high as 25 mph, and it's set to be a blustery day with the likelihood of precipitation at an undeniable 100%.
Even as Friday rolls around, there's little respite to be found from the damp conditions. Showers are likely mainly before 2pm, under mostly cloudy skies, and it's going to be windy with a high near 51. It's a similar story for Friday night, with a chance of early evening showers and continuing winds, though temperatures should hold at a low around 42.
The weekend offers a glimmer of hope for outdoor plans with the forecast predicting a mostly sunny Saturday and a high near 61 degrees. However, the weather's whims persist with a return of rain chances on Sunday. As daytime highs push upwards to 67, so too do the probabilities of showers under partly sunny skies.
Come Monday, a semblance of calm is expected to restore as mostly sunny conditions prevail, offering Detroit a high near 65. With such a variable week ahead, locals will surely have to prepare to rapidly adjust from sunshine to rain showers on a day-to-day basis.
