Duluth Parks & Recreation is set to roll out this free, nine-week showcase of musical diversity at the 41st annual Music in the Park Concert Series. Kicking off at 6:30 p.m. for each 90-minute concert, fans can catch the first five sessions at Chester Park with the series wrapping up at Lincoln Park, according to a recent Facebook announcement.
From the sounds of indie bands to the rhythm of bluegrass, the lineup promises to cater to an array of musical tastes. Striking the first chord at Chester Park on June 18 is the group Born Too Late, followed by Ida Jo and The Trash Cats, Sydney Hansen, Cyr and the Cosmonauts, and Mary Bue and the Monarchy during subsequent weeks. Housed at 1801 E. Skyline Parkway, with the first five concerts, park-goers are in for a sonic treat every week.
The series then moves to Lincoln Park, situated at Lincoln Park Drive & W. 3rd St., starting July 23 with Big Wave Dave and the Ripples leading the charge. Not to be missed, the following weeks will feature Slapdash Bluegrass and The Brothers Burn Mountain, Matt Hannah and Mac and Cheese, and lastly, Boku Frequency closing the show on August 13.
A nod of gratitude is owed to Chester Bowl, hailed for assisting in the concert series fruition, alongside promotional sponsors My957 and 98.9 KTCO. Without the support of these partners, enthused by fueling the local music scene, the Music in the Park Concert Series might not resonate as powerfully as it does throughout the community.
